Nikamma isn’t a fantasy film

The star cast of Nikamma was recently in the capital to promote the song ‘Ab Meri Baari Aai’. A2zoftrends spoke to the star cast to learn more about their roles and if Nikamma is fantasy film. Here’s what they had to say…

After a long wait of 14 years, actress Shilpa Shetty is back on the screen. She will soon be seen in ‘Nikamma’ that also stars Abhimanyu Dasani and debutant Shirley Setia. The film is an official Hindi remake of a Telugu film MCA - Middle Class Abbayi that featured Nani, Bhumika Chawla and Sai Pallavi.

Nikamma revolves around the relationship between a sister-in-law and brother-in-law. However, Shilpa clarifies that its nothing like the ones released in the past.

“Generally, films show that there’s a lot of love and respect between a bhabhi and a devar. But Nikamma focuses on the tussle between the two. It is a coming-of-age film that features love and madness,” she said.

When asked if she is playing a superwoman in the film, Shilpa clarified that she isn’t. “The superwoman you saw in the trailer was Adi’s imagination. I play ‘Agni’, who expects her brother-in-law (Adi) to do all the household chores.”

The trailer of the film shows Abhimanyu as a lazy lad who is expected to do the household chores.

Taking about his role, Abhimanyu says, “I play a lazy lad in the film who is Agni’s brother-in-law. He is the nikamma of the house. I feel every house has a nikamma and being nikamma is not a word but a feeling. But the film shows my journey from a lazy lad to a mature man and the circumstances that makes me responsible.”

Though the onscreen chemistry between Shilpa and Abhimanyu shows a scuffle between them, off the screen, Abhimanyu enjoyed working with the actress.

He shared, “I learnt a lot from her right from the day she called me and said let’s rehearse the scenes together. She broke the ice and made me comfortable on the set. She has been extremely supportive, both on and off-the-screen.”

Directed by Sabbir Khan, the film marks the entry of Shirley in Bollywood. The singer thanked her fans for the love and support.

She said, “The journey from a singer to an actress has been incredible. I would like to thank my supporters and fans who were there to support me. It’s been challenging but rewarding.”

Nikamma is set to release on June 17.
